Hanham High School DanceAbout

Dance became a discrete subject at Hanham High School in 2004 and is now taught at GCSE and AS/A2 level as well as key-stage 3. There are many opportunities for pupils to perform in school, including Fever Dance Company, which was set up in September 2006 for Gifted and Talented Dance pupils.

Key Stage 3

In the first term of Year 7 pupils focus on developing basic movement and choreographic skills through the study of various themes. They will learn to develop dances and understand dance terminology.

In the following terms the pupils will continue to have theme based lessons where they will get to enhance their dance understanding, ability and performance skills.

Assessment: Classwork assessed by both teacher and pupil.

Key Stage 4

Pupils can take a GCSE in Dance. The main areas studied are choreography, performance and analysis. The pupils will work with dance artists, work in primary schools and perform in shows.

BTEC Performing Arts is also available for pupils interested in all aspects of the Performing Arts Spectrum: Drama, Dance and Music

Post 16

'AS' Dance has been introduced this year. Pupils will look at dance in depth and will study various Dance Companies, the history of dance and laban notation (writing dance).
