Learning Support (Special Educational Needs)Curriculum The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) is responsible for all aspects of Special Educational Needs work within the school, and works with teaching colleagues to organise this support. The support teachers are involved in the day-to-day learning of individual pupils through their statements of Special Educational Need, both within the classroom and beyond. The Learning Resource Base has ICT facilities and runs the 'Success Maker' integrated learning programme. The Teaching Assistants support individual pupils' learning needs within the classroom, and the physical needs of disabled pupils through the school. Annette Box is the Resource Base Coordinator, helping with the organisation of the department, through Individual Education Programmes (I.E.P's), Behaviour Plans and with other teaching assistants, ensuring support is provided in the classroom. The Resource Base supports pupils with statements for language and communication difficulties and has 5 pupils per year placed by the Local Authority. Pupils in the Resource Base spend mainly the majority of their time in mainstream lessons supported by Teaching Assistants, and have other lessons taught in the Resource Base. This is organised on the individual need of the child. The Department operates as a team. We believe that this approach is important in supporting the needs of the pupils. We see the parents and pupils as being part of this team. If you have any concerns about any aspect of Special Educational Needs work, please contact any one of us. Back to Top ![]() | ||||
